A Bunch of Wackadoos!

First let me say, I do not watch SNL. I watch digital shorts on Hulu but damnit if the skits aren't dry with slightly awkward endings. That being said, I was intrigued but also a tad, eh about the Betty White episode. It's old news now but it was brilliant of course. Here is the skit which has become my new obsession. Dude seriously, how amazing are Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph?

Chinese 5 Spice Tilapia w Veggies.

I made this ages ago and damn it was so succulent and luscious. The fish just fell off the bone and the veggies were so crisp. It's not to tricky to make but command of spices is a must.

Shit I Ate, But Didn't Make. . .

Broccoli Rabe Tart w Mesclun Salad & the MoMa Cafe

Burek @ Djerdan. My friend and I were looking for a slice in Midtown. The place was closed when we got there and ended up eating at a Balkan restaurant. Only in NY.

That's What Friends are For . . .

So one of my very dear mates Rahul introduced me to an "Wouldn't it be Loverly," snack/dessert. Ready, here it goes, almonds with honey. I know what you're thinking, it sounds so simple why didn't I think of it before? It's so lovely and there is absolutely no work. It is quite addictive though so beware. Anyway this tasty treat got me thinking how can I add to make this more of a meal and less of a possible binge. Here's what I came up with:

Vanilla Yogurt, Raw Almonds, Organic Cinnamon {it's surprisingly better than regular}, & honey

Same as above with defrosted blueberries & raspberries

Collards & Black Beans 2.0

Hey now! So the first post was probably my second or third time ever cooking collards {I know, I'm surprised my black card wasn't revoked earlier.} and I cooked canned black beans. Last Friday I made collards again {they came out brilliantly}, black beans from scratch {also brilliant}, and I sauteed some shrimp in butter and tumeric {so f'n good!}. I've been eating this meal everyday for about a week now and I still love every bite of it.

Collards & Black Beans over Basmati Rice

Yeah you're going to be seeing these ingredients a lot over the next few weeks. I'm on a mission to make wicked collards & dry beans instead of canned. I've already made some progress, but wish me luck!

Sweet Jesus, How Was I Ever Vegan?

Oh the lusciousness that is alfredo sauce. I really cannot understand why people buy jarred alfredo when it is so easy to make at home. Basic recipe: butter, half & half or heavy cream, chopped garlic, & parmesan cheese. Melt the butter, add the cream, let them simmer, then add garlic & cheese. Come on now, how simple. I added steamed broccoli, sauteed shrimp, and linguine to the sauce.

LuPWNed!

Alrighty folks, you know I am a musical geek. If it were up to me, we'd be singing all the f'n time. So one of the drama queens of B'way is Ms. Patti Lupone of course. I saw Gypsy, one of my favorites by the way, and you know what Patti was crapass! How do you mess up Rose's song? I perform the hell out of it in my damn apt. Anyway, even if you don't know her or the show, there's a good chance you've heard about her freaking out during one of the performances. Here is a hilarious remix of her dramatic episode. {Shoutout to Kay Kay for passing it along.}

Marina Abramovic @ MoMa

Simply put, it's a must see, must experience show. See Abramovic before she's gone!

"Hey Lloyd, I'm Ready to be Heartbroken. . ."

I really can't get enough of this song, I adore it so much. And the video is like the musical fantasy of a depressed, lonely girl.

Broken Beets.

So as I've mentioned before, Sundays have become a big cooking day for me. And if I'm not watching an old movie, I'm listening to one of my favorite djs on BBC 1xtra, Benji B. His show is a mix of dubstep, hip hop, broken beats, and soulful wickedness. It makes for a cool, smooth afternoon. I've also been exploring new spring salad ideas. My new favorite is a combo of shredded beets & carrots with a basic dressing of roasted garlic, lemon juice, honey, & sesame seeds. It's great on it's own and on sandwiches.
