Happiness is . . .

A hot bowl of grits (Farina's negro cousin) on a cold rainy day. I like mine sweet with brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, & some almond milk. It's also yummy with some peanut butter or eggs on the side.

Black Dynamite, I Dig!

Friends of mine know my heart longs for the 70's. The clothes, the music, the orgies, sigh . . . born too late. Black Dynamite is my kind of shit. The movie cleverly captured the look, feel, & melodrama of Blaxploitation Films. The brolick Michael Jai White plays Black Dynamite, a former CIA agent on a mission to rid the city of drugs & avenge his brother's death. One thing I really enjoyed was all the cameo appearances by so many underused black comedians. Scrawny & permed up Tommy Davidson was hilarious as Cream Corn. Also keep an eye out for Kym Whitley, John Salley, Arsenio hall, Phil Morris, & Cedric Yarbrough . Be sure to stay for the out takes during the credits. Peep the video bar for clips!

New Pie Smell!

Peep this coconut sweet potato custard pie.

Heaven!

Ahhh, look at that shine!

Happiness is . . .

Fresh cornbread in the morning! I made the recipe on the side of the Indian Head Cornmeal Bag with a few minor alterations. I tried & failed to find a link to it, but I did come across some moonshine concoctions. These might pair well with the Southern Style Breakfast I had of cornbread, fried fish, & scrambled eggs w hot sauce.

No Skills Necessary.

This is meal is so easy it's barely cooking. Boil some water with olive oil & salt, toss in linguine. Heat heaps of chopped garlic in olive oil, add some chopped spinach, the tiniest bit of kosher salt, then chopped anchovies. This is the trickiest part gently sprinkle some hot pepper in the mix. This takes a steady hand & a good eye. you want to feel the pepper but not taste it. It should radiate like a halo of light after each bite. The sweetness of the garlic offsets the saltiness of the anchovies. Enjoy!

Not Too Shabby!

What fun on an Sunday night! Old & new friends met to dine in celebration of 30 years of life at Shabu-Tatsu. We ate a variety of Japanese dishes from aged tofu, edamame, seafood bibim bop, & of course shabu-shabu. The meal was topped off by a green tea cake from K-Town.

Elsewhere in the City . . .

Mod Squad!

Last night, my friend Camilla & I hit up the MoMa for free {Thanks Target!} to check out the Ron Arad show before it closed. I'm not going to pretend I know a lot about the artist. I absolutely love furniture & unique design so this show was right up my alley. Overall, the show had a very sexy feel with all the low lights & curvaceous chairs. If it were the 70's & the people were more attractive, who knows what would have gone down. . .
