Pho Toe Shows

Hey Photo fans, here's some info for two interesting shows I peeped last week:

The first is at ICP, and I have to admit I spent more time gabbing it up and laughing at some hilarious outfits than taking in the show, but hey it was the opening and It was too crowded to really study the work. I did like what I saw and the shows combine two of my deepest loves, Paris & black & white photography. Don't forget, it's free Friday's from 5-8pm.

The second show is called Versus at Hous Projects Gallery, in what I would call Chinatown, but it's probably considered SoHo or NoLiTa or something other than Chinatown. It's an interesting exhibit that compares/clashes the work of two photographers. Some of the comparisons work better than others. It's worth seeing either way and hey you can do like I did and stock up on some vegetarian Gong Bao Chicken at Mah Way Vegetarian when you're finished. I used to shop there when I lived and Jersey and first moved to The City. It's literally right around the corner and down the street. {It all comes back to food, right?}

Food's Comforting . . .

Ooo child, November was a roller coaster. Not too much going on in the kitchen unless you count boiling mounds of brussel sprouts. {I do love them!} Luckily the month is over and I'm excited about food again. Cooking often pulls me out of a slump. The meal gives me something to look forward to. This afternoon I prepared garlic shrimp & broccoli over angel hair pasta. it was a nice simple meal that hit the spot. Peep photos.

Don't boil the f out of them, keep some vitamins!

Sauteed the shrimp with chopped or fresh garlic

Mash-up!

I served it over angel hair pasta and garnished with parmesan & cayenne pepper. C'est bon!

Not Too Shabby!

What fun on an Sunday night! Old & new friends met to dine in celebration of 30 years of life at Shabu-Tatsu. We ate a variety of Japanese dishes from aged tofu, edamame, seafood bibim bop, & of course shabu-shabu. The meal was topped off by a green tea cake from K-Town.

Paris me manque . . .

I've been back from Paris for 3+ weeks now and I still have not adjusted. I adore this dirty old whore of a city, but a part of me is missing. The last trip was my third time in Paris and I can officially declare it is my new long distance love affair. I yearn for the hills of Montmartre,  Le Pantheon, boulangeries, speaking mediocre Francais, & my new friends. My journey also firmly cemented what I love most in life. Amazing food, cheap fun clothes, & good company. Here are some of my favorite spots.
Ah, j'taime Paris,
a bientot. . .

This building was my home in Montmartre. I definitely enjoy/suggesting a flat abroad. I saved money by cooking meals, had more privacy, & felt more immersed in my district. Here's a link to the site I used: Apt Rentals in Paris.

Paris is a delightfully small, yet dense city. I discovered Fripes Star En Route to Marche des Enfants Rouges in Marais. It's a hop skip from Centre Pompidou. There are two locations about a 5 minute walk away from each other.   I bought 2 sweaters, 1 scarf, & a summer skirt for 21 euros!

Le jardin du Musee Carnavalet

Le Pantheon is my new Notre Dame. This impressive building beautifully illustrates the life of Saint Genevieve, the patron Saint of Paris. I highly suggest taking a free tour to the top. You can burn off some croissant calories & admire a 360 degree views of the city.

Rue Ramey Street Market!

Ca a bon gout! this wickedly delicious patisserie is located in gay Marais. {those of you who Parlez Francais can appreciate the rhyme.} Legay Choc is where I had hands down the best cheesecake of my life! When I close my eyes I can still feel it's warmth and recall it's sweet, fruity, cheesy scent. So lovely! Junior's got nothin' on these guys.

Below are photos from Mi-Va-Mi, an amazing falafel restaurant in the Jewish section of Marais. I ate a falafel pocket with a side of frites. It was so delicious I remember it more than some of the desserts I had. The actual falafel wasn't too dry or greasy and it was paired with shredded cucumber, marinated beets, grilled eggplant, lettuce & tomato. Heavenly!
